Airframe Designs, a specialist engineering services provider, has expanded its additive manufacturing capabilities with the acquisition of the company’s second Stratasys Fortus 450mc, and the introduction of stereolithography resin printing technology. This investment not only doubles the UK company’s capacity for producing high-quality, lightweight tooling and rapid prototypes but also broadens its technological horizons within the aerospace sector. The Fortus 450mc, alongside the company’s advanced stereolithography capabilities, enables it to work with a wide variety of materials, including ULTEM 9085, ABS, ASA, Antero 800NA, and various resins – catering to a broader range of manufacturing needs.
By utilizing AM through this high-end machine, Airframe Designs can create complex geometries, quickly assemble multi-component systems, and rapidly optimize designs for improved functionality – especially for applications where light weight is important.
Simultaneously, the company continues to actively participate in the NATEP program, in collaboration with Additive Manufacturing Solutions Ltd, Mix14, and end users like Airbus Helicopters UK and Aerolux – developing the latest in advanced manufacturing technologies. This engagement underlines the company’s role in driving industry innovation – focusing on developing new materials and processes that meet the stringent requirements of aerospace applications.
With these latest investments and continued commitment to quality and environmental management, as evidenced by its re-certification to AS9100D/BS EN ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, and ISO 27001 certifications, and achieving Cyber Essentials Plus, the company solidifies its reputation as a trusted provider of cutting-edge AM solutions to the world’s leading aerospace companies.
